Despite the 36 to 42 loss, the Wolverines won seven of nine head-to-head matches against Heathwood Hall.
“It feels bad to dominate like that and lose because we can’t meet weight class,” coach Jarrod King said.
During the Camden Military matches Tray Nelson won by forfeit, 119 pounds; Devin Armstrong won by pin, 125 pounds; John Paul Miller won by forfeit, 130 pounds; Dylan Graves won by pin in the first round, 135 pounds; Seth Horton won by pin in the first round, 140 pounds; Tim Epps lost by pin in the second round, 171 pounds; Ethan Campbell won by pin in the first round, 189 pounds; Seth Shouse won by forfeit, 215 pounds.
Against Heathwood Hall Nelson won by pin in the third round, 119 pounds; Armstrong won by pin in the first round, 125 pound; Graves lost by pin in the first round, 130 pounds; Miller lost by pin in the first round, 135 pounds; Horton won by pin in the first round, 140 pounds; Epps won by pin in the first round, 171 pounds; Campbell won by pin in the second round, 189 pounds; Shouse won by forfeit, 215 pounds.
Although the Wolverines split the first regular meet of the season, King said he is very pleased by what he saw his team accomplish.
“We are extremely pleased with our team’s performance,” he said. “It was the most mistake-free, first match of the season that I have ever been a part of.”
Whitmire travels Monday to take on Ware Shoals and Greenwood at Greenwood. Start time is 6 p.m.
