JONESVILLE — The Potters House in Jonesville is asking for help.

Second Harvest, the organization the Jonesville church receives food from for its Truck Load of Food events that give food to those families in Union County in need of assistance, is seeing such a high demand on its food reserves the church will not be able to hold another event in December like it has the previous two months.

That doesn’t, however, change the need here in Union County.

“We have over 650 registered families with more registrations daily,” said Pastor Don Moore. “Any donations of can goods, cereals, grits, rice, dry beans or any nonperishable items, including soap products, toilet paper, shampoo, etc. will be greatly appreciated.”

Moore and his church are trying to secure as much as they can so they can assist people again in December without Second Harvest. To do that, they need as much help as possible.

“The Potters House is trying to secure any and all food possible,” Moore said.

He and his congregation are determined to get enough together for December to help all of the families who have registered with them for the Truck Load of Food events.

“We will somehow meet the needs of those in crisis having no income or food and as many other folks as possible,” Moore said.

Anyone or any organization or business that would like to donate food or other nonperishable items or make a monetary donation to the cause is encouraged to contact the pastor. He and his volunteers also are happy to assist in collecting the items if they can’t be brought to the church.

“We will be happy to pick up donated items,” Moore said.

He’s also seeking any business, church or organization that would be willing to be collection points for donated items.

The last two Truck Load of Food events — the first in October and another just two weeks ago — have helped more than 1,000 families combined get some of the food they need. Registrations still are coming into The Potters House and the success of those events highlights just how much need there is in Union County.

That need Moore and his church have seen is the driving force behind them wanting to do something again in December.

“The need is great in Union County,” Moore said.
