Born in Union County on Sept. 8, 1929, Hammie was the son of the late Annie Lyles. He attended Union County Schools and previously worked for Lucan Steel in Coatesville, PA. He was a member of Union Church of Christ.
Surviving are two sons, Rodney (Marcia) Lyles of York, PA and Djaun James of Cleveland, OH; one daughter, Pamela James of Cleveland, OH; three granddaughters, Megan, Lateefa and Rachelle Lyles, and one grandson, Rashaad Lyles, all of York, PA; one brother, John Lyles of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Ohio Jeter and Judith Mitchell, both of Union, SC.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2009, 10:00 am at Union Church of Christ. Burial in the St. Paul Society Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 am until the hour of service at the church.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Ohio Jeter, 406 Lakewood Drive, Union.
The Gibson & Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
