Twenty-eight spectators were injured Friday night when a wall collapsed at Union County Stadium.

The incident occurred at the start of the fourth quarter during the second round of the state football playoffs.

A 15-yard section of brick wall collapsed sending fans falling onto the field and on top of Union County High School cheerleaders.

Susan Foster, compliance officer/risk manager for Wallace Thompson Hospital said that 17-20 people had been brought in from the stadium to the emergency room.

Foster said that while some ex-rays were still being taken most of the injuries appeared to be minor and she did not anticipate anyone being admitted to the hospital. Several were treated at the stadium and allowed to go home.
