Union native James ‘Jake’ Lyles

NEWARK, NJ — James Henry "Jake" Lyles, 67, of 93 Goldsmith Ave., Newark, NJ died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 in NJ.

A Union native, he was the son of the late Nathaniel and Ruth Hughes Lyles and the grandson of the late Maslean Smith. He was a 1962 graduate of Sims High School and a graduate of Friendship Jr. College. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service.

Survivors include one daughter, Jamie Kynard; two granddaughters; seven siblings, Gertrude L. Thomas, Helen L. Warwick, Hazel Lyles, Venetia L. Fisher, Dr. Gladys Lyles-Gray, Willie "Gene" Lyles, and Nathaniel "Poochie" Lyles.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Whigham Funeral Home, 580 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Newark, NJ. The Rev. Dr. Michael A. Glenn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ.
