Two women who got into a fight Friday afternoon ended up with a bruise, a cut and a trip to the Union County Jail.
Sherry Marie McMorris, 46, 311 Columbus St., and Wanda Faye Little, 40, 503 West South St., are each charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature by the Union Public Safety Department.
An officer was dispatched to an apartment at 201 West Henritta St. around 3 p.m. in response to a report of a fight in progress. When the office arrived, he found Little with a “severe laceration” to the left side of her face. She told the officer she’d got into a fight with McMorris who’d cut her on the side of her face and then left.
The officer located McMorris at her Columbus Street home where he noticed she had a “large contusion” to her left eye and the whites of her eyes appeared to be bleeding. McMorris told the officer Little started arguing with her and then walked up to her and punched her in the eye and walked away. She said Little then walked back up to her and started hitting her again. It was then she said she hit Little in the face with her ring which cut her.
Little, however, claimed that McMorris cut her with a blade of some sort.
After talking to both women, the officer charged them with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Both were still in jail as of Monday afternoon.
Larceny
The public safety department is also investigating a series of larcenies including one that took place after a woman refused to let a man get into bed with her.
Two plastic bags containing clothes and other items were reported stolen from the front porch of a residence at 1010 West Main St. The victim told officers that shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday a black male came into the building and tried to lay down in bed with her. She said she told him to leave and he left but when she got up and looked outside the window, she saw him walking east on West Main Street with the two bags in his hand.
The victim said the man had black hair and brown eyes and appeared to be 40-50 years of age.
The bags contained a hair dryer, two pairs of blue jeans, a house coat, black bedroom shoes, three t-shirts, three sweaters, a green jacket, Reebok tennis shoes, socks, panties, a comb and a brush. The items have a total estimated value of $200.
Gas drive-off
Another larceny under investigation occurred just before 2 p.m. at the Exxon station at 101 North Duncan Bypass. The investigating officer was told by the victim a tall black male in a silver SUV had drove off without paying for $46.02 worth of gas. The vehicle, which turned out to be a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica, had Tennessee plates. Officers searched for the vehicle but were unable to locate it.
Truck rim stolen
Officers are also searching for a man who took a chrome Nissan truck rim valued at $20 from a yard at 123 Seigler Road on Saturday afternoon.
The victim told the officer he and his wife had placed the rim by the side of the road to sell it. He said his neighbor had told him a white male had knocked on his door asking about the rim and was told he had to see the man next door. The white male said okay but then simply went out, picked up the rim and put it in the back of his pickup truck, backed out and left.
The white male is described as 30-40 years of age and wearing an orange shirt. The truck is described as a gray, older model Dodge.
Metal theft
Also under investigation is the theft of metal steps and pipes and a grill with a total value of $150 from the PWA Club at 604 North Church St.
The complainant told the officer he’d come by to light the heaters when he noticed the steps and pipes had been taken from the side of the building along with an outdoor grill. The theft took place sometime between 6 a.m. Oct.14 and 1 p.m. Oct. 19.
