Lady Jackets tennis stomps Blue Ridge

The Lady Jackets’ tennis team took one more step to post-season play Tuesday evening beating Blue Ridge 7-0.

“I am very pleased with the effort,” coach Kelly Jenkins said. “We played some people in different spots and they really stepped it up.”

Kelsey Harris won 6-2, 6-3 over Lindsey Brown; Abby Allen beat Whitney Rodgers 6-0, 6-3; Lauren Harrison won 6-2, 6-2 over Jessica Miller; Kristen Martin won 6-4, 6-4 over Meredith McCray; Logan Wade won 6-4, 6-2 over Sarah Horton.

In double’s action. Victoria Barker and Brittany Ledford beat Emily Turman and Kelley Chapman 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) in a dramatic come from behind victory; Harris and Rachel Jones won 6-1, 6-2 over Taylor Burgess and Kelsea Shirley.

Union County wraps up regular-season play this week against Greer today and Woodruff on Thursday.

“We have two more matches this week and everyone is important,” Jenkins said.

Junior Varsity Volleyball

Union County lost both games Tuesday to Clinton, 25-13 and 25-8.

Andrea Eison had two kills; Makaylah Plemmons had three digs; McKale Hardy had an ace and a kill; Hannah Farr had two assists; Ashleu Vaughan had an ace.

The team will host Greer on Thursday for its last game of the season.
