Union County tennis served up a big win Monday, defeating previously unbeaten in the region Clinton 4-3.

The victory kept the Yellow Jacket’s playoff hopes alive.

“I am proud of the way the girls hung in there and pulled this victory out,” coach Kelly Jenkins said. “We had to have the victory to have a chance at the post season and they really wanted it.”

Avery Owens of Clinton beat Kelsey Harris 6-0, 6-0; Lady Jacket Lauren Harrison beat Logan Wilson 6-0, 6-1; Kristen Martin of Union County beat Ann Nichols 6-1, 6-4; Lady Jacket Logan Wade defeated Sela Vaughan 6-4, 5-7, 10-4.

In double’s action, the Union County team of Brittany Ledford and Rachel Jones lost in a close match to Lawton and Burroughs, 6-2, 3-6, 3-10; Allen and Harris lost to Owens and Seawright 6-4, 5-7, 8-10.

Lady Jacket tennis hosts Blue Ridge 4:30 p.m. today.
