Yellow Jacket tennis nabbed a big win last night over Riverside.
They won the match 4-3, to take second place in the region.
“It was a great team effort,” coach Kelly Jenkins said. “The girls have been working hard to get to where we are now.”
Union County took victories at three singles spots and the No.1 doubles won to seal it for the jackets. Kelsey Harris (UC) came from way down to challenge Irena Danescu but fell 2-6, 5-7.
Abby Allen (UC) won her match 6-1, 6-4 over Grace Elsey. Lauren Harrison (UC) played a great match and won 6-1, 6-1 over Kathryn Godwin.
Kristen Martin continued her winning ways with another stellar effort, taking a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Rachel Booth.
Brittany Ledford (UC) lost her singles match to Brianna Forthaus 3-6, 1-6.
In doubles action, Logan Wade and Rachel Jones (UC) came up short against Chelsea Steldans and Teddy Stoikov 4-6, 2-6. With the match tied at 3 to 3, Harris and Allen pulled out the victory 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 over Danescu and Elsey.
“We have had two good efforts in the past week against quality teams, but we still have our work cut out for us in order to take a spot in the playoffs,” Jenkins said.
“We'll enjoy this win and then get back to work toward that goal,” She said.

Union County's varisty volleyball team lost 3-2 Tuesday to Greer.
Greer won 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, 15-5.
Jessica Hall had 8 serve points, 2 blocks, 3 digs and 15 kills; Meredith Walker had 1 ace, 7 serve points, 3 blocks, 3 digs and 9 kills; Megan Russell had 7 digs; Morgan Walker had 2 aces, 8 serve points, 3 digs and 10 assists; Taylor Hughey had 2 aces, 8 serve points, 3 digs and 11 assists; Iyauna had 1 dig; Tiffany Vaughan had 12 serve points; Hetti Millwood had 10 serve points and 3 digs.
