Brenda Gail Rochester, 53, of 171 Sutton Road, was charged Tuesday by the Union Public Safety Department with two counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of petit larceny.
Warrants signed by Investigator Brian Bailey said Ms. Rochester entered a woman’s room at Oakmont Residential Care on Sept. 17 and took $30 then returned on Sept. 19 and took $12.
According to Ms. Rochester’s information sheet from the Union County Jail, she is now unemployed.
A report said the 88-year-old victim began missing money from her room. She told an employee that she hid her purse in a certain spot in her room and always locked the door when she left.
The employee and the victim put two $5 bills in the purse and covered it with papers. The victim went to dinner. When she came back, one of the $5 bills was gone. She put the purse back in hiding and went to bed. The next morning, the other $5 bill was gone.
PFC Eddie Williams took information on the case, including obtaining a work schedule of employees who would have been on duty, and turned over the case to investigations.
Ms. Rochester is being held in the Union County Jail. Bond had not been set for her Wednesday.
