GREER — Union County’s girls’ tennis team defeated Blue Ridge 7-0 on Wednesday.

In singles play, Kelsey Harris won 6-4, 6-1 over Lindsey Brown; Abby Allen won 6-0, 6-2 over Whitney Rodgers; Lauren Harrison won 6-1, 6-1 over Jessica Miller; Kristen Martin won 6-0, 6-3 over Meredith McCroy; Brittany Ledford won 6-2, 6-1 over Sarah Horton.

In doubles play, Harris and Allen won 6-0, 6-3 over Kelsea Shirley and Taylor Burgess; Logan Wade and Rachel Jones won 6-4, 7-5 over Kelly Chapman and Emily Turmon.

“This was a great way for us to open up the region matches with a big win,” said UCHS coach Kelly Jenkins. “Everyone played well.”

The Jackets (3-2) host Chapman on Monday.

SIMS VOLLEYBALL

Sims’ volleyball team lost to D.R. Hill and Boiling Springs on Wednesday.

D.R. Hill won 2-0 (55-13, 25-17).

“Whitney Ivey played a much better game today and Lindsey Murphy did a great job in serving,” said Tiger coach Tracy Duncan.

Boiling Springs won 2-0 (25-16, 25-8).

“Michaela Solis’ hustled and was very encouraging during these games,” said Duncan.

Sims travels to Dawkins on Monday.

“I still do not believe our record shows our true talent,” said Duncan. “I just hope the girls learn something from these loses and work together as a team in the future.”

Pacolet defeated Jonesville’s volleyball team on Wednesday.

Kenny Harris breaks record

Former Union Yellow Jacket Kenny Harris became Pikeville (Ky.) College’s all-time leading tackler on Saturday.

Harris had five stops against Shorter College and now totals 216 career tackles.

The 5-9, 210-pound linebacker is a senior.
