To the editor:
My name is Amber Allison. I am in my sophomore year here at the University of South Carolina of Union. In just one year I have seen our numbers grow to tremendous amounts. As the word of our school continues to grow so will our numbers.
Parking at the university is very limited. Most students this year have resorted to parking on the back lawn behind the main building. But for the central building the space is even more minimal than for the main building. So what are the students to do when there is nowhere for them to park? The answer is that there is nothing the students can do.
The only solution to this problem would be more parking areas. But with that solution comes more problems. Like where? How much? For how much money? There is only one place I know of and that is the grassy lot that lies between the two buildings. I have no knowledge as to who this land belongs to, this is merely a suggestion, one that should be of high regard for this growing campus.
The only place to look is to the future and in that future the success of USC-U will be great, but should it decline all because we have nowhere for the students to park? Should we decline students the right to learn because we aren't sure if they will be able to park close enough to the university in order to make it to their classes on time? The answer is no. Students should be welcomed in by the dozen. With the addition of this parking the image of USC-Union will span to towns and cities outside of Union County bringing in more business for restaurants, stores, and shops surrounding the area. With all this convenience wrapped into a nutshell, it can lead one to come to the decision of making Union County their home, if only for a short amount of time.
I only want what is best for this historic campus. I want USC-Union to strive for the very best. I owe this campus, faculty, and staff the most regards. This university was here when I needed to further my education and I want it to be there for those to come. No stings attached.
