WHITMIRE TENNIS

PROSPERITY — Whitmire’s girls’ tennis team defeated county-rival Mid-Carolina 5-2 on Tuesday.

In singles play, Krista Inman (M) d. Jenna Baker 6-3, 6-4; Christine Connelly (M) d. Lynlee Thompson 7-5, 6-1; Deanna Willard (W) d. Gabrielle Sanders 6-1, 6-2; Alex Cromer (W) d. Lenora Glover 6-0, 6-1; Allyson Greenway (W) d. Katie Delesandro 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles play, Thompson and Willard (W) d. Inman and Connelly 8-7 (5); Jordan Suber and D.J. Norton (W) d. Shaina Kingsmore and Miranda Pugh 6-2, 6-2.

Whitmire (1-1, 0-1) hosts Newberry today.

UCHS VOLLEYBALL

YORK — Union County’s volleyball team fell, 3-0, to York on Tuesday.

York won 25-14, 25-19, 25-23.

Jessica Hall had two aces, four serve points, three blocks, six digs and eight kills; Megan Russell had four digs; Meredith Walker had two aces, four serve points, three digs and a kill; Morgan Walker had two aces, five serve points, two digs and four aces; Taylor Hughey had an ace, three serve points, three digs and two assists; Tiffany Vaughan had four serve points and two digs; Hetti Millwood had two serve points and a dig.

“The ladies are showing improvement,” said Jacket coach Yoneko Washington. “A lack of focus cost us the match.”

UCHS (1-2) hosts Woodruff on Monday, one of three matches the Jackets have next week.

Union County led Woodruff 3-0 on Tuesday when a storm stopped the match. It will be completed in October.
