Hare scramble

coming to Union

The Whippoorwill Hare Scramble will be held Sept. 5 at 290 Minnow Bridge Road, Union.

The race is part of the Mid-East Hare Scramble Series.

Race times are: PeeWee, 8 a.m.; Youth Quad, 9; Youth Bike, 10; Motorcycle, 12; Quad, 3.

Registration opens at 7 a.m. and closes 15 minutes prior to the start of each race.

Rider meeting times are: PeeWee, 7:45, trailer; Youth Quad, 8:45, trailer; Youth Bike, 9:45, trailer; Motorcycle, 11:45, starting line; Quad, 2:45, starting line.

Directions: From Hwy. 176, take Hwy. 49 West about 8 miles, turn left onto Bombing Range Road and go to stop sign, turn left onto Old Buncombe and go about two miles to Minnow Bridge Road, second road to the left. The track is 8 tenths of a mile on the right.

UCHS girls’ tennis team plays in Eye Opener

Union County’s girls’ tennis team lost its first match of the Highway 221 Eye Opener Girls’ Tennis Tournament to Dorman, 4-2, on Thursday.

Jacket winners were: Abby Allen at No. 3 singles and Kristen Martin at No. 5 singles. Allen beat Meredith Graham 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 10-7. Martin beat Joy Anna Peskovich 6-3, 6-3.

Other matches were close, but UCHS lost some tie-breakers.

The Jackets play two matches on Saturday.
