Five fire departments helped fight a blaze that destroyed a mobile home early Sunday morning.

The fire on 224 Neal Shoals Road was reported around 3:30 a.m. Monarch Fire Chief Dr. John Flood said Tonya Lease told firefighters she was awakened by her dog. She escaped the single-wide trailer without being injured. The structure was a total loss.

Flood said Ms. Lease rented the mobile home from someone else and told firefighters she had been experiencing electrical problems

The mobile home, which was located near the intersection with Carem Road, was valued at $7,500. Its contents were worth around $5,000.

Philippi, Southside and the City of Union fire departments and the Union County Fire and Rescue Squad were called to assist Monarch.
