Mrs. Thompson was born March 25, 1940, in Union, the daughter of the late Arthur Moorman and Mamie Pearl Johnson Barrett and was raised by Arthur Barrett Sr. She was a member of New Hope A.M.E. Zion Church wherre she served on the usher board of directors. She also belonged to the Women’s Aid Society. She attended Essex County College in Newark,N.J. and worked for the Union County Disabilities and Special Needs Board.
Surviving are two sons, Chester (Maureen) Barrett and Kelvin Thompson, both of Sedalia; and four daughters, Eartha Zimmerman and Kennie Faye Robinson (Derek), both of Union, and Audrey M. Boswell and Desiree Goolsby (Tommy) of New Jersey; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Delcina Thompson.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at New Hope A.M.E. Zion Church by the Rev. Dr. Eugene Goodwin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. to await the hour of service.
Visitation will be held today from 12 noon-7 p.m. at the home, 189 Minnow Bridge Road, Sedalia.
