A teen-ager who escaped from the Union County Detention Center less than a month ago is in trouble again, this time accused of assaulting a fellow inmate at the county jail.
Solomon Maurice Gore, 18, of 309 South Church St., was charged Monday by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
A report said Cpl. Dale Anders and Private Brandon Vaughan at the Union County Jail were letting a group of inmates in a cell block take showers. Gore ran across the day room and hit inmate Kenneth Norman, 26, of 208 Monroe St., across the back twice with a broom handle. Anders got Gore under control while Vaughan locked down the cell.
Norman was taken to Urgent Medical Care for examination of his injuries.
Norman has been in the jail since Feb. 21 when he was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Gore escaped from the detention center on July 21 and was recaptured about 12 hours later. As officers were walking him from a patrol car to the county jail, he spit toward a WSPA cameraman, an act that was caught on video and shown on TV. He was charged with assault and battery in that matter.
He had begun serving a 60-day sentence at the detention center on July 13 for giving false information to police and possession of marijuana.
Man arrested
Mack Boler III, 25, of 106 Hamm St. was charged Monday by the sheriff’s office with criminal sexual conduct, assault with intent first degree. He is being held in the Union County Jail on $25,000 surety bond.
The 49-year-old victim told Officer Mike Gregory that she was in her bathroom taking a shower. Boler came in and pulled the curtain back. She asked what he was doing and he said he was trying to have sex with her. She said Boler had locked the door behind him. She said she unlocked the door and another man who had come into the house “got” Boler. She said Boler had tried to hug her but had not touched her inappropriately.
Teen charged in assaults
A teen-ager is accused of being part of two separate assaults on June 29.
The boy, 15, was charged Sunday by the Union Public Safety Department with second-degree lynching and first degree burglary. His name was not released because of his age.
One of the victims, 47-year-old Saul Talley, told Cpl. Dell Mitchell he was on Spring Street around 3:50 a.m. when three men jumped him and one struck him in the back with his fist. He was able to describe his attackers, including that one had something shiny on his teeth. An investigation into the case is continuing.
The other victim, 84-year-old George Means, told Cpl. Dell Mitchell he was in bed at his home on Simmons Street around 5:25 a.m. when he heard a bump at his front door. He said three men came in to his bedroom and began throwing bricks at him. He said he covered his head with a pillow. The men identified themselves as police and said he was under arrest. He was able to describe two of his attackers — one was tall and skinny and had shiny metal teeth and the other was short and wore glasses.
EMS was called for Means after he told officers he was hurting in his chest where he had been struck by a brick.
Means said $50 was taken from his wallet and a pair of shoes and a hammer also were missing.
Jeremiah Antoine Sims, 21, of 117 Riverbrock Drive, Gaffney, was arrested in the burglary at Means’ home on Friday and also charged with first-degree burglary.,
