A Barnwell teen-ager has been arrested in several burglaries that occurred in the City of Union in February.

Wadell Williams, 17, of Connie West Apartments, was charged with six counts of burglary and two counts of attempted burglary. Chief Sam White said officers had been looking for Williams since the incidents and he was located on Tuesday in Barnwell.

The break-ins occurred between Feb. 14 and Feb. 20 in the Merchant’s Walk Shopping Center area. According to warrants signed by Investigator Mickey Parker, Williams and another teen-ager, whose name was not released because of his age, are accused of breaking into The Pool Place, In and Out Oil Change, American Credit Corporation, Jordan Enterprises, Inspirational Corner and Shear Class.

They are accused of attempting to break into Radio Shack, Rent A Center, Citi Financial and Best Check Advance.

At most of the businesses, very little was taken but damage occurred.

Officers said Luther Alexander Deloach, 24, of 119 Cherry St., Barnwell, brought the boys with him to Union. Deloach was meeting at motels with a 13-year-old Union County girl he had become acquainted with on the Internet. Deloach is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct in that matter. He said he had no knowledge of the criminal activity of the boys.

Thefts and vandalism

Break-ins were reported Tuesday at two Union used car businesses.

At Union Kar Connection on 207 South Duncan By-Pass, the victim told Investigator Brian Bailey someone broke into the business through the front door and also broke into a 2001 Dodge Ram parked outside. A Panasonic stereo worth $240 was taken from the truck. Damage to the business was estimated at $400 and damage to the truck was estimated at $540.

At Charlie’s Auto Sales on 101 Rice Ave., an employee told PFC Eddie Williams she came to work and found change drawers containing around $35 were missing. The suspect likely entered through an unlocked window.

On 3116 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, a victim told Sgt. Jeff Wright Tuesday that someone took speakers and an amplifier from a sun room off the front of his house. He valued the equipment at $488.

On 200-B Lipsey St., someone shot an apartment. The victim told PFC Eddie Williams she heard a loud boom around 10 p.m. on Monday and she thought it was thunder. She looked out Tuesday and saw someone had shot the side of the apartment. Damage was estimated at $600.
