Elwillie Bates Jeter, 90, of White Oak Manor-Spartanburg, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Daughter of the late Rev. Hizzie and Ella Bates, she was born in Union County, May 10, 1919. Mrs. Jeter was a member of McBeth Baptist Church, having served as church secretary, Usher Board president, senior choir member, preschool Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and secretary of the Women’s Aide Society.

Surviving are three children, Vivian Ann Jeter, Robert Hizzie Bates of Union and Sherie (James) Hardy of Jonesville; seven grandchildren reared in the home; three great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 26, 2009, at 3 pm at the McBeth Baptist Church. The family is at 653 Rogerstown Road.

The Gibson & Brown Funeral Home of Union is in charge of arrangements.
