The group met Thursday evening at the Union County Courthouse to approve their constitution and elect officers. The constitution was approved unanimously by the approximately 25 people attending the meeting. Tyler Shugart was elected chairman, Mark Pettit vice chairman and Tiffany Littlejohn secretary-treasurer.
Shugart said the group’s next step will be to get chartered in the South Carolina Federation of Young Republicans. He said the group’s executive committee will meet next week to discuss plans for a membership drive.
Young Republicans is a social and political organization for members of the Republican Party between the ages of 18-40. The Union County organization is the county’s first Young Republican group.
