A membership drive will be one of the first orders of business of Union County’s new Young Republicans group.

The group met Thursday evening at the Union County Courthouse to approve their constitution and elect officers. The constitution was approved unanimously by the approximately 25 people attending the meeting. Tyler Shugart was elected chairman, Mark Pettit vice chairman and Tiffany Littlejohn secretary-treasurer.

Shugart said the group’s next step will be to get chartered in the South Carolina Federation of Young Republicans. He said the group’s executive committee will meet next week to discuss plans for a membership drive.

Young Republicans is a social and political organization for members of the Republican Party between the ages of 18-40. The Union County organization is the county’s first Young Republican group. Its goal is to bring young people into the GOP and give them the opportunity to get involved in party politics for the betterment of the county, state and nation.
