The Union County Republican Party is asking Gov. Mark Sanford to resign for the good of his family and the state.

Sanford has been the target of criticism since he revealed the existence of his mistress in Argentina and admitted to affairs with other women. The admission has led to calls by a growing number of newspapers and Republican members of the state legislature that he resign. The Union County GOP is the latest to call for Sanford’s resignation.

Chairman Mike Fowler said Thursday that he and the other members of the party’s executive committee had spoken to a total of 100 people throughout the county about the scandal. Fowler said everyone they spoke to believes Sanford should resign. He said the committee then met Wednesday evening and voted to call on Sanford to do so.

Fowler said this is in keeping with the party’s mission statement adopted in June which called for candidates to support traditional family values. He said the committee feels that Sanford’s actions demonstrate a lack of respect for the family and a dereliction of his duties as governor.

“What we’ve learned from the press conferences over the past week, he has not been able to pay full attention to his duties as governor,” Fowler said. “We want a governor that supports traditional family values and works for the betterment of the state instead of spending his time inappropriately. We feel it is time for the governor to place his family and the state ahead of his personal concerns and allow this issue to stop dragging South Carolina down.”

This story has bee going on for more than a week.It is time that his constiuents call for his title.Today,Sanford and his wife are trying to "spark"back together in Florida.I imagine the only heat there will be from the sunburn on the beach.Did Sanford take his spiritual advisor with him. When he went to Venezuala,he went alone. The "sparkin" had already begun with Maria on the internet, even before the plane was in the air.The only thing Mark is "sparkin"is the Father inlaws US dollars.

I think he should stay to remind us that if we think that a political party is better than any other political party when it comes to family we are living in fantasy land.

Let us examime the facts:

Gringrich

Giuliani

Livingston

Ensign

and others along with an equal number of democrats.

Another reason he should stay is we have a Lt. governor that has demostrated that he is nothing more than an undisciplined teenager in a man's body. I say this because he has bragged about driving fast and was clocked going 101 milies an hour and not ticketed. He has proven he is not qualified to be governor.

He, the officer who clocked him, and the man in charge of the state highway patrol all have failed to uphold the pledge they made when they took to job to uphold the laws of this state. Bauer has also put the citizens of this state on the highway in jeporady by his actions and then bragged about the fact he is a fast driver.
