A Union native died Monday from injuries she received in a vehicle accident in Georgia.

The wreck that killed Teresa Ann Parham, 46, occurred on Interstate 85 south of Exit 41 at Moreland. According to an article in the Newnan, Ga., Times-Herald, Ms. Parham was pronounced dead at the scene by Coweta County Coroner Ray Yeager.

Trooper Justin Pollett of the Georgia State Patrol Post 24 in Newnan said Ms. Parham was southbound on I-85 in the left lane when she ran onto the low shoulder of the highway. She brought her Pontiac Grand Am back onto the pavement but then lost control and traveled across a grass median sideways into the northbound lanes. Her car was struck in the driver's side by a tractor-trailer truck traveling northbound in the center lane. The truck driver, Pedro Hernandez of California, tried to avoid her car but was unable. Hernandez was not injured.

The wreck occurred around 11 a.m. in an area near the 40 mile marker where there are no concrete barriers.

Ms. Parham was a 1980 graduate of Union High School and a 1981 graduate in data processing from Spartanburg Technical College. She also held bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Troy State University. She was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service and was working with the Civil Service in Columbus.

She is survived by numerous relatives in the area, including her mother and siblings.

Funeral services for Ms. Parham will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at McBeth Baptist Church.
