The Union County Horse Club will host a National Barrel Horse Racing Association sanctioned show Saturday.1

The event begins at 7 p.m. at the horse arena on the Union County Fairgrounds. Admission is free and concessions will be sold. Exhibition or practice runs will be held earlier in the afternoon prior to the show.

Horse Club President Ashley Burgess said riders from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia can compete for points toward year end championship totals.

This is the first time the club has hosted a barrel racing competition. It is hoped it can become an annual event.

Ms. Burgess said she thinks the show is something the entire family will enjoy.

“I think everybody likes to come and watch the horses run,” she said. “There’s a lot of whooping and hollering and it really is a fun time.”
