Derrick Antoine Land, 26, of 518 Hart St. was charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana within one-half mile of Monarch Elementary School. He was given a ticket by the Highway Patrol for a seat belt violation.
A report said Cpl. Jared Gilstrap assisted the Highway Patrol with a traffic stop on Bobo Street where the driver of a 1995 Honda jumped out of the car and ran. Trooper Randy Quinn said he had seen a blue Crown Royal bag being thrown out of the passenger side of the vehicle.
Deputies found the bag at the intersection of Sims Avenue and Perrin Avenue. It contained 21 individually packaged bags of what is believed to be marijuana. Deputies then went back to where Land and two occupants of his car were being detained- Solomon Gore and Jessica Levister. After interviewing all three it was determined that the person in possession of the marijuana was Land. Land was placed in the back of a patrol car and read his rights. He at first denied the marijuana was his and then claimed it. He had been sitting in the front passenger seat of the Honda — the same side from which the bag was thrown.
The case remains under investigation and additional charges may be filed. The person who jumped out and ran has not been located.

Stabbing
Deputies were called to 114 Short St. around 9:45 p.m. Monday after it was reported someone had been stabbed. Deputies found no one there with a wound. Everyone there refused to cooperate with information.
Around 30 minutes later, deputies received a call that the Highway Patrol had stopped someone on Furman Fendley Highway who had been stabbed.
Sgt. Russell Vinson spoke with Calaab Kirby, 20, of 519 Riley Road, Buffalo. He said Chad Murphy, 27, of 302 Blassingame St. came to Short Street and started a fight. He said Murphy went outside and returned with a knife and cut him on the back.
Murphy told deputies that Kirby came into the residence with someone he didn’t know and both of them started beating him. He said he got into his vehicle and was trying to leave when Kirby came outside and broke the windows of his vehicle. He said Kirby and the man he didn’t know pulled him out of the vehicle and that is when he pulled the knife and cut Kirby.
The case is under investigation.
