Deputies are looking for a suspect who shot a man twice early Friday morning at a Monarch convenience store.

Officers were called to the BP on 1315 Lockhart Highway around 2:04 a.m. The victim in the case, 21-year-old Lewis Loyd Jr. of East Henrietta Street, had already been taken to the hospital in a vehicle. He later was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Lt. Al Black said it appears the shooting was a continuation of an argument that began somewhere else. Officers are reviewing a store surveillance tape to try and identify Loyd’s assailant. Loyd said he did not know the man who shot him.

“The victim came to Monarch and within a minute of arriving at the BP a fight broke out,” Black said. “The victim was shot in the leg and arm through and through.”

Eight shots were fired. Five struck the car of a people not involved in the fight and nearly hit an innocent bystander.

“A person was sitting in the passenger seat and bullets missed his head three times by inches,” Black said.

Loyd lost a lot of blood in the shooting but he is expected to recover.

Authorities are looking for a black man with a thin build who is around 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall. He has short hair and a dark complexion. He left the scene in a blue Nissan Maxima.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 429-1612 or Union County Crime Stoppers at 427-0800.
