Mayor Ernest Moore, a Men of Action member, announced the cleanup during Tuesday’s town council meeting. Moore said the members of the group, the youths they mentor and other volunteers will work all day May 23 to clean up the town. He said Union County will provide an extra dumpster for disposal of the garbage collected during the cleanup.
Moore said the group will also assist residents needing help cleaning up their property. He said any resident wanting the group’s help should call the town hall at 674-5746.
In other business, council voted unanimously to award the contract for sidewalk improvements on four streets to CBD Inc. for $23,588. The company will replace sidewalks on South and North Main Street, Forest Street and Hames Avenue. The project, which will cost $35,000 for the actual construction plus engineering and contingency, is being financed with C-Funds awarded the town by the Union County Transportation Committee.
Council also voted unanimously to hire John Young to cut the grass on town property for $715 per cut.
