Dr. Ellison will be autographing copies of “Mommy Pick-Me-Ups,” which she co-authored with Linda Gilden. The book includes short devotionals that end with an idea about how to manage children and build Christian character.
Inspirational Corner owner Audrey Henderson said Dr. Ellison is an inspiration.
“She is a wonderful lady,” Mrs. Henderson said. “I always keep her books in the store. I really enjoy her coming into the store and she has been very supportive of the business.”
Inspirational Corner is located on 408-C North Duncan By-Pass. The book signing is offered in conjunction with a Spring sale.
Dr. Ellison also has another recently published book, “A Month of Miracles,” which is 30 stories of miracles for the holiday season.
Dr. Ellison is a well-known author and speaker from Spartanburg. She has been a keynote speaker in London, England; Frankfort, Germany; and cities in Panama and Honduras. She has spoken in Hawaii and Alaska and most of the continental states.
Her life was featured in a Focus on the Family magazine, where she also has been published.
After being widowed at a young age, she has been a national magazine editor, served as executive director of Women’s Ministries/Missions for the state of California and has taught in seminaries and secular universities.
Dr. Ellison said she loves to lead prayer retreats and speak at women’s conferences. She has written two books on mentoring, “Woman to Woman: Preparing Yourself to Mentor,” and “Seeking Wisdom,” which are printed in English and Spanish. She wrote these with Tricia Scribner, whom she mentored in writing.
She also has written the Friendships of Faith Bible Study series: “Friend to Friend” (Philippians), “Friendships of Faith (Hebrews) and “Friendships of Purpose” (Ephesians).
She also is featured in “Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul 2 (Her story is the first one in the book), and “Chicken Soup for the Christian Sister’s Soul.”
She also has authored two small gift books, “Soul Matters for Women,” and “Hugs of Sunshine for Women.”
She is a former Union resident and her daughter, Patsy Farmer, teaches at Foster Park Elementary School. Patsy’s husband, the Right Rev. Timothy Farmer, is rector of St. Francis Anglican Church in Spartanburg and Bishop of the Carolinas for the Anglican Church.
Dr. Ellison also has a son, Jack, a banker who lives with his wife, Wendy, and daughter, Blakely, in Birmingham, Ala.
“I believe many of the world’s problems of today could be solved if Christians could mentor other Christians,” she said.
As Christians, the goal should be to grow lower and more humble until we reach the heart and mind of God, not higher and happier.
“For instance, when we pray, we are on our knees,” she said. “And when we sacrifice ourselves for the good of others, all that is a lower position rather than a higher position. The Bible says those who are first shall be last and those who are last shall be first.”
