On May 17, a potential contestant meeting will be held for those interested in the Miss Union or Miss Union Teen competition. The meeting will be held at Sight and Sound Photography Studio on 434 East Main St. beginning at 2:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
To be eligible to compete in the Miss Teen Union pageant, girls must be 13 to 17 years old or up to a rising junior in high school. Miss Union contestants must be a senior in high school up to age 24. Contestants for both pageants must be a Union County resident or live in a 30-mile radius of Union County. Those who meet the resident or radius requirement but who attend college elsewhere still are eligible.
Amanda Ferguson, local executive director for the pageants, said the pageants will be held in late July or early August. The theme will be “Salute to Soldiers.”
“It’s not just a pageant,” she said. “It will be very patriotic this year. It will be a salute to our veterans and armed forces members.”
Mrs. Ferguson said she is hoping for a large turnout for the potential contestant meeting.
“Anybody interested in seeing what the pageant is about, interested in seeing if it is something they would like to do or who has questions about the pageant is encouraged to attend,” she said.
