Playoff games postponed by rain

Rain postponed Monday’s playoff games for Union County High School’s baseball and softball teams.

Weather permitting, the softball team is scheduled to play Clinton tonight at 6. The baseball team is scheduled to play at A.C. Flora tonight at 6:30.

Friday’s games

Union County 14,

Fairfield Central 3

Union County defeated Fairfield Central, 14-3, on Friday to advance in the 3A baseball playoffs.

Danny Grady tripled twice, Jarrod Cheek homered and singled, Brett Duckett singled twice, Jacob Freeman and Taylun Wallace each doubled and Rob Littlejohn, Scoot Maynor and Gerard Taylor each added singles.

Jacob Freeman (4-1) was the winning pitcher.

Softball

Chapin 1, Union County 0

Chapin scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge Union County, 1-0, in the 3A softball playoffs on Friday.

The Yellow Jackets had an opportunity to score in the top of the ninth with runners on first and third, but could not capitalize.

Britni Ward took the loss for Union County (10-7). She struck out seven batters. Brooke Kelly was 1-for-1 at the plate while Brooke Rollins was 1-for-3.

Taylor Morgan picked up the win. She struck out 14 batters.

Soccer

Union County 3, Chapman 0

Union County scored three goals in the second half to defeat Chapman, 3-0, on Friday.

Cody Boulware and Alex Tucker scored for the Jackets. A third goal was a result of a Chapman kick into the Jackets' goal.

Monday night the Jackets lost to Clinton 5-1. Dayne Jackson scored for Union County. Following the game, the senior players were honored at a banquet at Morningside Church. The seniors include Kyle Saxon, Seth Roark, Rhett Glenn, Billy Brown, Cole Stanley, Josh Cain and Ben Green.
