Union County’s varsity golf team fell short of qualifying for upperstate on Tuesday in the Region III championship tournament at Links ‘O Tryon. But Hunter Parks, an 8th-grader, did qualify as an individual and made the all region team.

Final team scores: Riverside 633, Chapman 644, Blue Ridge 653, Clinton 704, UCHS 710, Greer 718. The top four teams qualify for upperstate.

Jacket individual scores: Hunter Parks 79-78-157; Adam Gault 88-93-181; Billy Weibley 91-92-183; Jordan Crumpton 94-90-184; Nick Coffer 98; Nick Monroe 99.

“Congratulations to Hunter Parks for qualifying for the upperstate tournament as an individual and earning all-region honors,” said coach David Maness. “Our team was disappointed with their play this week, but I think that this will motivate our returning players to work hard this summer to prepare for next year.

UCHS BOYS SOCCER

Union County’s varsity boys’ soccer team defeated Landrum 5-1 on Tuesday.

Alex Tucker scored two goals; Kyle Saxon, Ben Green and James Walton each scored a goal.

UCHS hosts Chapman on Friday.

UCHS GIRLS SOCCER

LANDRUM — Union County’s varsity girls’ soccer team defeated Landrum 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday.

With 30 seconds left, Danielle Harris scored on a foul shot to tie the game. With two minutes left in the second overtime, Claire Dobson hit a penalty kick to give the Jackets the win.

Rebecca Drum, Harris and Meredith Walker led the defense. Walker had 15 saves.

“We finally came alive at the end of the second half,” said coach Terry Drum. “I’m proud they gutted it out at the end. That showed some character.”

UCHS (3-12) travels to Chapman on Thursday. Senior Night will be Monday against Chester.

The JV girls lost 1-0 to Landrum.

Union County’s varsity baseball team defeated Woodruff 13-3 on Monday.

Keiston Stevens (4-3) was the winning pitcher. Danny Grady singled twice and doubled; Cal Arnold singled and doubled; Brett Duckett had a single; Jarrod Cheek singled; Josh Johnson singled; Adam Lawson singled; Keiston Stevens singled and homered; Scoot Maynor tripled and singled twice; Rob Littlejohn singled; Joe Beatty singled.

UCHS (13-7, 7-3) travels to AC Flora on Thursday to open the playoffs. Game time is 7 p.m.
