NEWBERRY — Funeral services for Mack Thomas, 86, will be conducted on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Pratt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in St. Mark’s Catholic Church Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Born in Newberry County, he was the son of the late John Wood Thomas Sr. and the late Nancy Whitener Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Thomas was supervisor of the Doctor Nursing Home at D.C. General Hospital. He was a 1942 graduate of Drayton Street High School and a World War II veteran.

Mr. Thomas was predeceased by three brothers, Taft Thomas, James J. Thomas and Whitener Thomas; and three sisters, Susan Quarles, Daisy Blair and Eleanor Chichester.

Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Bessie J. Thomas of Newberry; one brother, John W. Thomas Jr. (Josephine) of Maybinton; one sister-in-law Ella Mae Thomas of Silver Springs, Md.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted cousins the Abnathey Sisters and friends.

The family will receive friends at Spring Place Assisted Living, Room 19.
