An empty logging truck wrecked on Highway 176 near Beatty's Bridge Friday afternoon, spilling some 70 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway and into nearby grass. Union County Emergency Preparedness Director Stephen Jones said the driver of the logging truck lost control and ran off the road. The rig jackknifed and ruptured a fuel tank, spilling about 70 gallons or 100 yards of diesel fuel on the Whitmire Highway. Traffic was detoured onto Beatty’s Bridge Road and Tinker Creek Road for about six hours. Emergency personnel said the driver of the truck, whose name was not available, might have had a health problem before wrecking.
