WHITMIRE BASEBALL
GREENVILLE — Greenville Tech Charter defeated Whitmire’s varsity baseball team 10-2 on Tuesday.
Blake Walker got the win for the Warriors. Jonathan Stevens took the loss. Stevens pitched five innings, giving up six runs (five earned).
The bright spot for Whitmire was the play of senior OF Jarrell Ruff-Smalls, who started a triple play in the first with a diving catch. He then threw to SS Josh Pressley, who stepped on second and threw to first to get both runners who did not tag.
Ruff-Smalls also hit a two-run home run in the fourth, following Ethan Campbell's double. Stevens went 2-for-3 at the plate.
"Jonathan was not at his best tonight,” said WCS coach Chris Martin. “Our staff still walks too many as a whole. We did not put the ball in play enough tonight. Their pitcher kept us off balance."
Whitmire (0-14, 0-6) travels to Blacksburg today.
