How do you love the Union County Carnegie Library? The library wants you to count the ways.
In honor of National Library Week (April 12-18), people are being asked to share their stories about how they’ve benefited from using the Carnegie Library by:
• Going to the library’s website (www.unionlibrary.org) and clicking on the “Why I Love My Library” logo;
• Sending it by mail to the library at 300 East South St., Union, 29379;
• Dropping in at the library and sharing them with the staff.
Library director Nancy Rosenwald said the stories will be posted on the library website and forwarded to the State Library which will then forward them to the American Library Association. She said the stories will be used to promote libraries and public support for them across South Carolina and the nation.
“What we’ve realized over the years is that public libraries have not been good advocates for themselves,” Mrs. Rosenwald said. “We really need to make clear how important libraries are to the public. Our patrons are the best people to tell us how important the library is to them.
“Just like you, thousands of people all over South Carolina use their public libraries to access the information they need to improve their lives, find jobs, and to help their children learn and stretch their imaginations,” she said. “Your story can make a difference in funding for public libraries statewide and ensuring that every citizen has access to quality resources and information.”
