Taylor said that at 7 a.m. today law enforcement from state and local agencies put “Operation Spring Clean” into motion by starting to serve more than 69 drug-related arrest warrants in Union County. At least 30 people will be arrested on the warrants and a joint task force will serve five search warrants at different locations in the county.
Taylor said when he took office on Jan. 7, he, Chief Sam White of the Union Public Safety Department and Jonesville Police Chief Jimmy Wilkins sat down and talked about drug problems in Union County.
Agents from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are assisting with the sweep.
“We are jointly focusing our efforts to combat the ongoing drug problem that is affecting our way of life in our communities,” Taylor said.
The sweep will target a variety of illegal drugs, including crack cocaine, marijuana and distribution of prescription drugs.
“It’s an effort our narcotics people have really been working on,” Taylor said. “We stressed to our narcotics people from the very beginning that we were going to take an active approach on drug activity in our county.”
