Officers were called to the home on 400 South Mountain St. around 12:40 a.m. A 53-year-old woman there told Officer Dean Allen that her 64-year-old friend, a man from Spartanburg, was leaving her home and she walked out on the porch and watched as he went to his car.
A man approached him from between the woman’s house and the house next door, pulled a handgun and told the visitor, “Give it up; give me your money.”
The elderly man said he had no money. The man with the gun told him to go into the house. As the 64-year-old was trying to get up the steps, the man with the gun pushed him down the steps. He managed to get up and go into the house with the woman and her 51-year-old sister.
The man with the gun then demanded money from all three people in the house. The 53-year-old said she started screaming and then ran into a back room, locked the door and called 911. The suspect ran out the door.
The victims said the man was wearing a dark-colored jacket with a hood, light-colored blue jeans and a white ski mask that had eye holes. One victim said he shuffled his feet when he walked.
The elderly man said his handgun is missing from the glove box of his vehicle and he thought the suspect might have taken it.
A similar incident occurred Thursday night at Bi-Lo. The victim said a man dressed all in black and armed with a handgun ran toward him and said, “Give me all your money.” The victim ran inside the store and called 911.
“If you are out at night, be aware of your surroundings,” First Sgt. Troy Wright said.
