Public safety officers are looking for a man who attempted to rob a Bi-Lo shopper late Thursday.

The victim, a 51-year-old man, told Officer David Lee that he was going into the store on Rice Avenue Extension around 10:30 p.m. when a black man dressed all in black came running toward him. The victim said he was almost in the store when the man pulled a black handgun, pointed it at him and said “Give me all your money.” The victim ran inside and called 911.

Witnesses said they saw the man get into a four-door dark-colored car and leave.

First Sgt. Troy Wright urged citizens to use caution and be on the lookout for suspicious people in shopping center parking lots, even in the daytime.

“Take a minute to be aware of your surroundings before you get out of your vehicle,” he said. “If you observe someone who appears to be suspicious, don’t leave your vehicle. Wait until someone else pulls up or until you feel comfortable enough to get out. Also, if you are going to a store at night, it’s probably a good idea to have someone ride with you. If you pull up to a store and feel uncomfortable, use a cell phone and call 911 and ask that officers ride through the parking lot. We wouldn’t mind that; that’s what we are here for.”

Man arrested after traffic stop

A Union man faces multiple charges after a traffic stop by deputies.

Ronald Christopher Roach, 45, of 146 Hamm St., was charged Wednesday by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with possession of a Schedule 4 narcotic, having an open container of alcohol, giving false information to police, driving under suspension, having no proof of insurance, having no registration in his possession and possession of a Schedule 3 narcotic.

A report said deputies were flagged down in the Monarch area and told that Roach was driving around in a white Ford truck, he had no license and he was trying to sell pills.

Deputies stopped the truck and asked for Roach’s driver’s license. He handed them one that belonged to someone else.

Deputies found in his pants pocket a pill bottle containing what is believed to be Alprazolam and Hydrocodone.

In an unrelated case, Roach was charged by the Union Public Safety Department with obtaining a prescription by fraud and forgery

An arrest warrant signed by Investigator Mickey Parker said Roach obtained a prescription for Alprazolam at CVS on March 4 that had been written for his girlfriend. The warrant said he did not have permission from the woman to get the prescription and he did not give the pills to her after he obtained them.

The warrant for forgery said Roach forged two checks on the account of the same woman at Fresh Air Galaxy in February, one for $80 and the other for $75.

Thefts

Friday morning, a victim told Sgt. David Brewington with the public safety department that someone stole his 1996 Honda Civic while he was inside Union House on 220 North Gadberry St. The victim said he had left the car unlocked and a set of keys were in the center console. The car is worth $6,000.

On 115 Brown St., Union, a victim told Deputy James Kershaw Tuesday that someone used scissors to cut the screens to her back bedroom windows and entered the house. They left a Mountain Dew bottle on the table in the dining room.

The victim said her City of Union utility bill was over $96 and she had not been staying in the residence.

A witness told Kershaw that he saw someone peeking through the living room window last week when he was picking up a neighbor.

Damage was estimated at $80.

On 708 Timberlake Road, a victim told Sgt. Dee Haney Thursday that she came home and found someone had taken a black lock box from under her bed. It contained one white gold ring that had approximately 30 diamonds arranged like a flower worth $2,000 and a gold diamond waterfall ring worth $500.

The theft of $700 was reported at a business on 6331 Whitmire Highway, Union. The victim told Haney that the money was taken from a lock box under the counter.

Thursday, a victim on 417 Monarch Highway reported that $430 worth of guns were stolen from his home by two men he allowed in his home. The suspects are 40 and 18 years old.

The victim reported he let the suspects into his home after the older one said he needed something done on the computer. The younger one asked to use the bathroom and then went directly outside. The older one then said he needed to use the bathroom and then left. The victim said he thought the actions of the men were odd. He noticed guns were missing off the wall. A stick the victim was using to hold up the bathroom window was gone and the screen was ripped.

A witness said she saw the two men run across the road carrying three guns.
