The Sims Middle School softball team defeated Byrnes, 11-1 in six innings on Friday. Rebecca Lee was the winning pitcher and went the distance with six strikeouts while allowing six hits.

Katelyn Petty, Lee and Anna Johnson each singled in the second inning and Sims took a 1-0 lead.

Byrnes evened the score in the second before Jazmyne Boyd smacked a 2-run homer in the third for the 3-1 Sims advantage. Petty RBI tripled and scored on a passed ball to pad the lead at 5-1.

The Tigers added five runs off four hits in the fifth. Johnson and Abbie Valentine each singled while Petty and Natasha Dunn doubled. Boyd scored on a single by Valentine in the sixth to put Sims ahead by 10.

“We were tested defensively against a good Byrnes team,” said Sims Coach Kelly Jenkins. “Our infield was strong in the effort and we made some great plays in the outfield to shut down any scoring chances late in the game. I was really happy with our effort as a team. These girls came ready to play.”

On Wednesday, Sims defeated Jonesville 33-0. Lee and Tayler Stines combined for the shutout allowing no hits and striking out eight batters.

Dunn — 2 for 2 with a double and a triple, Petty — 2 for 3 with a double, Johnson — 2 for 3, Lee — 2 for 4 with a triple, Shydericka Jeter — 1 double, Valentine — 1 double, Cassie Heatherly — 1 single.
