UNION — Hannah Sailors recorded a 13-0 shutout over Newberry on Monday night at the Timken Sports Complex. The freshman right hander allowed just one hit and struck out 14 in the contest that was called in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule.

The Lady Jackets jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first off of four hits and two errors. They added one in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth. Sailors baffled Newberry’s lineup in every inning, seating 14 of 15 batters on strikes.

“Hannah pitched a great game,” said Union County Head Coach Danny Gault. “The whole team did a fantastic job of hitting and running the bases.”

Makaylah Plemmons, Peyton Martin and Ashley Vinson each singled and doubled to lead the Lady Jackets at the plate.

In J.V. Action

NEWBERRY — Laina Vaughan hurled a shutout two-hitter on Monday night to lead the Union County J.V. to a 28-0 win over Newberry.

Vaughan struck out six and gave up one walk in the game that was called after five innings. Meanwhile, the Lady Jackets put on an offensive clinic, touching up Newberry’s pitching staff for 15 hits.

“I am proud of the way the girls came together and played tonight,” said Union County J.V. Head Coach Mark Moss. “It was a great effort from the whole team.”

Cassie Horne led at the plate with two triples while Kendall Henderson, Karlie Lane, Morgan Pittman, Cara Phillips, Laquandra Thompson and Diamond Lee each contributed two hits. Vaughan also added a hit.

This weekend the Union County J.V. will compete in the 2013 Carolina Invitational Tournament at Oak grove in Lexington, S.C.
