UNION — The candidates for the position of USC Union campus dean have been narrowed down to two.

The University of South Carolina has narrowed the selection of the next USC Union campus dean down to two final candidates — Alice T. Colbert and David E. Fitz.

Colbert is currently associate vice president for academic affairs and professor of history at Lander University in Greenwood.

Fitz is currently the interim dean of the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville in Titusville, Pa.

USC Union has not had a permanent campus dean since the resignation of Dr. Hugh Rowland in March 2010. Dr. Stephen Lowe has served as interim campus dean since July 1, 2010, and will continue to do so until a new permanent dean is hired.

USC Palmetto College Vice Provost Chris Plyler said interviews are scheduled through March and April on the Union and Columbia campuses. The appointment of a permanent dean is anticipated in late spring.
