UNION — Thursday night’s meeting of the Union Hospital District Board of Trustees and Finance Committee began with the presentation of the February 2013 Award of Excellence. This month’s award went to Radiology Technologist Michelle Parker.
Director of Cardiopulmonary and Radiology Services Ed Bolds said Parker is an extraordinarily talented CT technologist who has been instrumental in setting up and configuring the hospital’s Picture, Archiving and Communications System (PACS) as well as other systems in the hospital.
“She epitomizes what this award is about,” Bolds said.
Human Resources Director Ed Bouknight said Parker also has a good reputation for helping in departments other than her own when she is needed.
Comments stated by some of those who nominated Parker for the award are as follows:
“Ms. Parker is a clear leader within her department, and is viewed in that manner by her peers, management and medical supervision alike.”
“Her technical skills in Imaging Services are superior.”
“Michelle will always assist her co-workers, without prompting.”
“Michelle is certainly an above-average employee … very enthusiastic about her job.”
“She completes her assigned duties in a professional and consistent manner.”
In other business, Andrea Cocovich, CNO reported that there were 500 more patients who visited the Emergency Department in December than in the previous month. She said the top reasons for the visits were the flu, or flu-like symptoms. Only 157 of the patients who visited the ER in December were admitted.
Board member Dr. John Flood expressed concern about psychiatric patients for whom little can be done at Wallace Thomson Hospital without a psychiatric ward.
“Hopefully, someone on the state level will see our critical need for psychiatric services and do something about it,” Flood said.
