UCHS BOYS SOCCER

CHESTER — Union County’s varsity boys’ soccer team fell, 3-0, to Chester on Wednesday. The JV Jackets lost 6-0.

UCHS hosts Riverside on Monday.

WCS BASEBALL

Newberry defeated Whitmire’s varsity baseball team 15-5 on Wednesday.

Tyrone Neal got the win for Newberry. Ethan Campbell took the loss for Whitmire.

Newberry was led by T. Smith (3-for-3). Whitmire was led by Jarrell Ruff-Smalls (3-for-3, two doubles).

"We are too inconsistent right now,” said Wolverine coach Chris Martin. “We must pitch and play better defense night in and night out."

Whitmire travels to Blacksburg on Friday.

DIDN’T PLAY

Union County golf, tennis, track and baseball contests were postponed due to rain on Wednesday.

UCHS BASEBALL

Union County’s varsity baseball team defeated Chapman 11-0 on Tuesday.

Alex Pridemore (2-0) was the winning pitcher. Danny Grady and Scoot Maynor each had two singles; Joe Beatty and Alex Pridemore each had singles; Taylun Wallace had two doubles; and Daniel Revis hit a two-run home run.

UCHS SOFTBALL

Union County’s varsity softball team defeated Chapman 3-1 on Tuesday.

“We played a great game defensively,” said coach Danny Gault. “Megan Russell at second base was in position to make three great plays.”

The Jackets scored their three runs in the third inning. With two outs, Kelsey Harris hit a single, Jessica Fisher got a hit and Britni Ward hit a triple to score two. Tori Ruth singled to score Ward.

Fisher was 2-for-3 hitting; Ruth was 2-for-3; Ward was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs; and Britni Comer was 1-for-3.

Chapman (6-3, 1-1) scored its only run on a triple and an error in the fourth inning, but never got a runner past second base the rest of the game.

“That’s a credit to our defense and pitching by Ward,” said Gault. “We played very good ball tonight.”

Ruth injured her knee in the bottom of the sixth when she over-ran third base and turned wrong. She’ll be in a brace and on crutches for a few days.

UCHS (3-1, 2-1) hosts Clinton on Friday.

SIMS BASEBALL

Sims’ baseball team defeated Lockhart 10-7 on Tuesday.

Antonio Tucker hit and scored a run; Trayvond Davis had a double and scored a run; Clay Jones had a hit and scored; Nathan Williford had two hits and 2 RBIs; Mark Jeter had three hits;. Spencer Owens had three hits and 2 RBIs; Keiston Smith had a hit and 2 RBIs; and Michael Todd Harris had a hit and 2 RBIs. Josh Gass was the winning pitcher.

Sims hosts Mabry on Friday.
