The Lady Jackets are one step closer to winning the region title. With a win over Woodruff and a Chester loss to Broome on Friday night the Union County girls basketball team took sole ownership of the No. 1 spot in Region III-AAA. The Lady Jackets defeated the Wolverines in a dominating 62-22 performance. CeCe Moorman finished the night with 19 points, just three less than the entire Woodruff team.

“Cece is a fighter under the board,” said Union County Head Coach Angela Burke. “She has a good vertical, very good instincts and she never gives up.”

The Lady Jackets had three players in double digits at the end of the night. In addition to Moorman’s 19 point effort, Kristin Giles turned in 16 points and Mari Eison netted 13. Sierra Mitchell and Dexlie Inman added eight and six points, respectively.

Union County now controls its own destiny. On Tuesday night the Jackets will travel to Clinton for the final game of region play.

“We’re going to prepare to play hard just like we do for every game,” said Burke. “We don’t underestimate anybody.”
