SPARTANBURG — The Rose Hill Candlelight Society of Union held its annual ball on Jan. 5 at The Spartanburg Marriott at Renaissance Park, Spartanburg.

Members and guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Stanley O’Neil Vanderford, Dr. and Mrs. Timothy Gerrard Woodall, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Alan Lipscomb, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lee Sinclair and Mr. and Mrs. George Walter Bruce. Other board members present included Mrs. Philip David Maness, ball chair; Mrs. James Marvin Stepp Jr., decorations chair; Mrs. Gus Pete Diamaduros, mothers’ chair; Mrs. James Scott Sherbert, presentation chair; and Mrs. Tony Scott Trakas, scrapbook/publicity chair.

Mrs. Vanderford is president of the Rose Hill Candlelight Society and Mrs. Woodall is vice president of the Rose Hill Candlelight Society. Mrs. Lipscomb is recording secretary, Mrs. Sinclair is corresponding secretary and Mrs. Bruce is treasurer.

Mrs. Vanderford welcomed members, guests and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Eugene Childers, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Dean Hayes, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gregory Lawson Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph David Turner as new members. Dr. Harold Woodliff Sanford served as Master of Ceremonies.

Seven young ladies were presented:

Miss Lindy Abigail Carson, daughter of Tyrus McClure Carson and Kimberly Carson of Lewisville, N.C., and granddaughter of Mrs. Carl Eugene Carson of Union, was presented by her father. Her escort was her brother, Ryne Tyler Carson. Miss Carson is a sophomore at Western Carolina.

Miss Erin McKenzie Connolly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Michael Connolly of Union, is a sophomore at Presbyterian College. She was presented by her father. Her escort was Patrick Sterling Greer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sarratt Greer III of Union.

Miss Rebekah Leah Elise Lawson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gregory Lawson Jr. of Laurens, is a sophomore at Presbyterian College. She was presented by her grandfather, Joe Gregory Lawson Sr. Her escort was David Flynn Hope, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meek Hope of Union.

Miss Kinsley Ann Vassey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Todd Vassey, is a sophomore at the University of South Carolina. She was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Grover Allen Owens Sr., and presented by her uncle, Mr. Owens. Her escort was Joseph Roy Cannon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Joseph Cannon of Union.

Miss Kayla Elizabeth Cody, guest debutante, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Wayne Cody. She is a sophomore at Lander University. She was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eugene Fisher of Union and presented by Mr. Fisher. Her escort was Taylor Marion Gregory, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Wayne Gregory of Chapin.

Miss Kirsten Clara Sanders, guest debutante, is the daughter of Donna Davis Sanders and Neal Lemond Sanders. She is a sophomore at Coker College. She was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Michael Connolly of Union and presented by Mr. Connolly. Her escort was Robert Paine Burnett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Ray Burnett of Union.

Miss Casey Catherine Woodard, guest debutante, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Barton Woodard. She is a sophomore at Lander University. She was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lee Sinclair of Union and presented by Mr. Sinclair. Her escort was Tyler Alexander Lawson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Darren Lawson of West Springs.

Five brides and grooms of 2012 were presented at the ball:

Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Harrison Cash of Columbia were sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Ellis Langley, parents of the bride. Mrs. Cash is a 2006 graduate of Wofford College and a fourth year medical student at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Mr. Cash is a 2009 graduate of Wofford College. He is a financial analyst with Talley Metals in Hartsville.

Mr. and Mrs. John Curtis Gregory were sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Lynell Gregory II, parents of the groom. Mrs. Gregory is a 2012 graduate of Spartanburg Community College. She is a pharmacy technician at CVS. Mr. Gregory is a 2005 graduate of Presbyterian College. He is assistant vice president with Arthur State Bank.

Mr. and Mrs. Westley Daniel McKinney of Columbia were sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Tradd CeEdward Bruce, parents of the bride. Mrs. McKinney is a 2011 graduate of the University of South Carolina. She is employed at the Congaree Wood Early Childhood Center as a teacher. Mr. McKinney is a 2011 graduate of the University of South Carolina and 2012 graduate of Liberty University where he earned a master’s degree in theological studies. He is employed with Sun Printing in Columbia.

Mr. and Mrs. Jason Bradley Shulte of Clemson were sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Alfred Koskela of Union, parents of the bride. Mrs. Schulte is a 2010 graduate of Clemson University. She is employed as a teacher at Midway Elementary School in Anderson School District 5. Mr. Schulte is a doctoral candidate in bio engineering at Clemson University, where he is a resident assistant.

Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Tate Thompson of Spartanburg were sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eugene Thompson, parents of the groom. Mrs. Thompson graduated from the University of South Carolina-Upstate and is the director of First Steps with Union County Schools. Mr. Thompson is a 2007 graduate of Wofford College and 2010 graduate of the South Carolina School of Law. He is an attorney with Holcombe Bomar.
