UNION — In an exciting, double overtime contest, Sims girls basketball fell to Rainbow Lake, 28-23 last Thursday night.

After trailing 13-12 to the visiting team at the half, the Tigers’ tenacious defense held Rainbow Lake to just seven points in the remaining two quarters, tying the game at 20-20 at the end of regulation.

The first overtime period ended at 22-22 forcing a second extra frame where Rainbow Lake iced the game from the free throw line to come away with the win.

“I am so proud of these girls for their hustle and team defense,” Coach Kenny Harris said after the loss. “This is the first time this year that we have played as a team defensively for the entire game. We missed some opportunities on the offensive end again, but we are getting better.

“I was also impressed with our bench because they kept their heads in the game,” Harris added. “If we are a better team at the end of January than we were at the beginning of November and we are constantly improving and always giving our best in practice and in games, then that is all I can ask of these young ladies.”

The Tigers were led in scoring by Brooke Smith with 12 points (8-14 from the line), Alexis Beatty with eight, Shataesia Booker with two, and Samiya Wood with one point.

Sims is now 1-8 overall, and 0-6 in the conference, with the next game Jan. 17 at Fairforest.
