Well, if you are reading this article then the world hasn’t come to an end like so many predicted it would on December 21, 2012.
I really wasn’t concerned at all about that because GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL! A greater concern of mine is for those who believed in the Mayans rather than the living Lord Jesus.
There have always been different beliefs and systems of “religion,” but the wonderful story of redemption is the greatest story and display of love for humanity ever told; starting from the Old Testament prophecies of the Lord’s incarnation and birth in a manager in Bethlehem. The details, events, and place were all foretold in the Old Testament scriptures. I can’t help but wonder why so many do not believe the biblical prophecies concerning the last days in light of the fact the Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled.
Regardless, I am so glad that Jesus came. When He came to earth it was much more than just the fulfillment of prophecy. Jesus came to reconcile man to God. He came to reveal unto mankind God’s love, mercy, and grace. Jesus came as man’s only means to salvation for his lost soul. Jesus came to us simply because we couldn’t get to Him.
Men have tried by religious acts, prayers, and traditions. Man has tried to ascend to Him but God does not accept man’s work. The only work God has accepted was Jesus’ finished work on Calvary’s Hill as He died for our sin. Jesus came to this earth to die. He healed the sick, fed the multitude, opened blinded eyes, unstopped deaf ears, gave strength to the lame, cast out demons, walked on water, stilled the storms, and even raised the dead. Yet He only came for one purpose and that was to pay the debt we owed. The debt required payment by death and someone had to pay. Eternal life is available today because Jesus paid our sin debt. He bore our sin and died in yours and my stead. Oh what a Savior! And now, we can have eternal life if we believe and accept what Jesus did for us.
The songwriter had it right when he wrote, “Heaven came down and glory filled my soul. When at the cross the Savior made me whole. My sins were washed away and my night was turned to day. Heaven came down and glory filled my soul.” This time of year means a lot of different things to different people. To my family and me, it is all about when Heaven came down! I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
