UNION — A former member of the staff of the Union County Career and Technology Center will return to the center in January as its new director.

The Union County School Board of Trustees voted at its Nov. 26 meeting to separate the center from Union County High School and make it a stand-alone institution within the school district.

At its Dec. 10 meeting, the board voted to appoint Kevin Morrow as the center’s new director.

In a statement released Monday about Morrow’s appointment, Jeff Stribble, district director of personnel and services, stated that Morrow spent 20 years at the center as an Automotive Technology teacher. Morrow also served four years as an assistant principal at UCHS and three years as principal of Lockhart Schools.

For the past five years, Morrow has been Education Administrator for the S.C. Department of Corrections.

“Mr. Morrow will provide leadership in the area of Career and Technology Education for Union County Schools,” Stribble said Monday. “He will work to make sure students have the employment and work place skills needed upon their graduation from Union County Schools.”

Superintendent Dr. Kristi Woodall said Morrow will not only provide the center with strong leadership but also strengthen the district’s ties with the local business community.

“Career Education is an important component of our system,” Woodall said. “We have made a number of changes to place increased emphasis in this area and know that Mr. Morrow will bring dynamic leadership to Union County Schools. Mr. Morrow was also well respected among our business owners and leaders in town and will be able to enhance their partnerships with the district.”

Morrow will assume his duties on Jan. 4, 2013.

There are approximately 1,561 students enrolled at the center for the current semester. The staff consists of 16 teachers and one career placement facilitator.

Career clusters offered at the center include:

• Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (Automotive Technology and Automotive Collision Repair)

• Business Management/Finance/Marketing

• Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources

• Architecture and Construction

• Manufacturing

• STEM

• Health Science

• Hospitality and Tourism/Human Services
