BUFFALO — Motorists who travel Gist Bridge Road will have to take a detour more than seven miles beginning in January while the bridge over Fair Forest Creek is replaced.

The S.C. Department of Transportation announced Monday that the bridge will be closed at 8 a.m. Jan. 2 and traffic detoured until May 31.

Traffic will be detoured so the SCDOT and United Contractors LLC can replace the bridge with a new one constructed at the current one’s location.

The detour will be for approximately 7.6 miles with motorists who normally travel the Gist Bridge Road required to instead travel the Meansville Road, Bailey Road, the Main Street/Buffalo-West Springs Highway (S.C. 215), and the Mudbridge Road.

The SCDOT is advising motorists to use extra caution while traveling in construction work zones.

For more information, contact Lewis Ryan of United Contractors at 803-581-6000 or Shane Parris of the SCDOT at 864-489-5760.

The S.C. Department of Transportation is committed to providing a safe, seamless, and sustainable transportation system that supports South Carolina’s economy and is sensitive to both its citizens and its environment. For general information on the South Carolina DOT, visit www.scdot.org.
