UNION — Two paintings donated by an area artist will be raffled off to raise funds for the Union County Cancer Services.

In a statement released Friday, the UCCS announced that Laura Kyle Hull from Pacolet has donated two original watercolor paintings that will be raffled off at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 27 at the Union County Museum. The raffle is to raise funds for the UCCS which provides services to cancer patients in Union County.

Hull’s donation is in honor of two friends who are both battling cancer. The paintings, “SC Wren Wired In” and “Sea and Grass,” are both 16 x 20, matted and framed, and valued at $500 each.

SC Wren Wired In is on display at the Union County Arts Council and Sea and Grass is on display at the museum, both on Main Street in Union.

Tickets for the raffle may be purchased at these locations for a $5 tax-deductible donation.

Hull, a former Wallace Thomson Hospital respiratory therapist, is a member of the Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg and South Carolina Watermedia Society, as well as other local and regional organizations. She began pursuing her interest in art after retiring in 2003 and in 2005 established Artistic Nature through which her paintings, prints and other items are distributed. Hull’s watercolor paintings incorporate natural scenes including flowers, insects, butterflies, birds, squirrels, raccoons and polar bears.

The Union County Cancer Service has operated in Union County for nearly 50 years serving residents being treated for cancer. It does not have any overhead expenses as all office space, equipment and other materials are donated and volunteers maintain its office. The only monies ever spent for items other than the patients’ needs are for office supplies. The Cancer Services is a 501(c)3 agency funded primarily by the United Way of the Piedmont and is currently assisting 100 residents of Union County, an increase of nearly 40 percent over last year.
