UNION — The Union County High School girls and boys basketball teams both lost on Friday night to Gaffney, the girls losing 46-40 and the boys falling 78-55.

In the girls game, Coach Angela Burke said the Lady Yellow Jackets didn’t execute well enough in the second half to come back and beat Gaffney but she said she feels confident moving forward.

“This is a well balanced team that works together off and definitely on the court,” she said. “We’ve got to regroup, have a good practice on Saturday and another on Monday to prepare for Laurens at their place.”

In the boys game, Coach Hickson said he didn’t think the tam competed that well in the first half.

“We still haven’t had enough practices as a team but regardless, we have to play four quarters of basketball,” he said.

Gaffney went on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter after Union County cut a 39-20 halftime lead to nine points. Gaffney led the entire game.
